Voices has launched its local campaign to coincide with ‘16 Days of Activism,’ a global campaign to highlight the issue of gender-based violence. The ‘16 Days of Activism’ runs from 25 November, UN International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Voices approached well-known local figures to show their support for survivors of domestic abuse and highlight the current unprecedented demand for services as a consequence of the cost-of-living crisis.  They have been photographed wearing t-shirts that are printed with unique and personal quotes gathered by Voices from local survivors of abuse. One photograph will be released every day on the Voices social media platforms as part of ‘16 Days of Activism,’ a global campaign to highlight the issue of gender-based violence.

MP Wera Hobhouse is among those supporting the campaign. She said; “The 16 days of activism campaign is an ideal opportunity to focus on the community response to domestic abuse in Bath and to encourage the whole community to show solidarity with people experiencing gender-based violence.”

Ursula Lindenberg, Chief Executive at Voices, said; “We are delighted that so many influential and remarkable individuals and support services from across Bath and North East Somerset have come together to support our campaign which aims to raise awareness of the devastating impact of domestic abuse on families and shows solidarity with domestic abuse survivors.

“Survivors of domestic abuse were trapped in their homes during Covid and now the cost-of-living crisis is magnifying abuse impacts and making recovery harder.”

Councillor Dine Romero, cabinet member for Children and Young People and Communities at Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “I am pleased to support this campaign. It is vitally important that victims and survivors of domestic abuse are heard.  Empowering people to recognise domestic abuse and seek help will help to reduce incidents of violence against women. I’d like to remind anyone facing domestic abuse in Bath and North East Somerset that support is available for you.”

Please follow and share the campaign on the Voices Facebook and Instagram pages (@Voices_Charity) and using the hashtag #16DaysofActivism on Twitter.
