This International Women’s Day (Wednesday 8th March) we’ll be coming together to voice our solidarity in the celebration of women everywhere, and provide an opportunity to reach out in support of those women who are or have been denied their voice.

Someone in our community who I would like to celebrate is award winning filmmaker, the very talented Rachel Meyrick, who in 2018 made a moving documentary about domestic abuse and the battle for custody in the US, called What Doesn’t Kill Me

After the success of What Doesn’t Kill Me, Rachel went on to make a short film called After Fred, about one of the documentary’s heroines, 86 year old Charlotta whose story is one of survival and hope. Rachel has kindly agreed for us to screen her short film After Fred on the 8th of March and this will be followed by a Q&A and an open discussion about how we can support women in our community who have experienced domestic abuse, and develop a greater understanding about healthy relationships. We’ll be joined by a representative from local charity Voices to help with our discussion.

7.30pm – 8pm: Arrival

8pm – 9pm: Sit down, get to know each other.

9pm: After Fred screening

9.30pm: Q&A and discussion with Ursula the CEO of Voices

This event is being held in collaboration with the The Abbey Hotel, and will be held in their event space The Escape. The ticket price includes sharing boards, a glass of prosecco or soft drink, and £5 from every ticket will go to Voices
